As Perfect As Imperfect Can Be

Wednesday, June 3, 2009

Not realizing the mistakes we make in another frame of time and another frame of mind is the worst mistake that we can possibly make. Never expect yourself to be perfect. Or to be in total control. Or even perfectly sane, all the time. We are all insane some of the times.

Building momentum, then keeping it.

Everybody wants to do well in life. Many people work very hard. Some people dont realize how hard they are working. We start working. Then get into the mode. Keep working. Keep going. Then things seem settled. We begin to slow down. We start to take success for granted. At such a point, its easy to lose the momentum we built over the time, with so much pain. And so it gets easier to get run-down. So what do we do about it? To keep that precious momentum. To keep that fire alive. To keep fighting. To keep on going. Just how do we do it?
I'll tell you what, its difficult. No, its VERY difficult. To RE-build momentum. To get there where you've been before. Mostly it is because we move forward by nature. To be staying in another moment and going back and bringing something from it. The idea itself brings for us - future shock. Which is nothing but the inability to move with time. Forward or backward.
Happens. To everybody. Sooner or later. Some people find it very hard to deal with. To get back to what they've left behind. To repeat. To redo.
But we just have to do it. Like everybody else has to in that situation. Because there is really no other way out. Literally!

This too is what we are.

Sometimes we behave in ways we never thought possible. We manage to be polite to somebody we really hate. We are rude to somebody we respect. We fight with people we love. We do things we didn't think we could or things we wish we hadn't. But is all us. Single entity. One.
Do we hate ourselves for the wrong we do? Is regret a solution to anything? We need to accept our mistakes, as a part of our person. My mistake. My fault. I'm sorry. It won't happen again. And if you really do regret, it wouldn't happen again.
But sometimes we repeat mistakes. And we never forgive ourselves for it. Forgiveness is not something that comes from outside. We are forgiven, when we forgive. Others. Ourselves.

Like Salman Rushdie said in his novel The Moor's Last Sigh:
"When a mistake of the heart is revealed as folly, we think of ourselves as fools, and ask our near-and-dear why they failed to save us from ourslves. But that is an enemy against whom no-one can defend us."
